LowID blues SOS

Postby punkmaister » 15 Nov 2012 19:54

Lately even though I have the port 6346 configured and all I keep getting low ID connections and more worrisome still some of the Edonnkey servers now give you the message that any IP that ends in zero automatically gets a low ID, this again is very recent up until before yesterday I could get HighiD ED2 connections, that however is no longer the case.

Have you done a connection test? Could you post the results here?

Maybe you have forgotten some minuscule step... You could try to refollow this guide for your router to make sure such has not happened: http://portforward.com/english/applicat ... aindex.htm

Also you could try to disable your firewall and anti virus and try the connection test again. Maybe one of your security programs is responsible for the issues you're seeing.

Hmm the modem we are using is not listed there.

Technicolor TG582n

The Antivirus I use Avira has never given any problems and it doesn't have an option to exclude programs also I'm using the free version which does not have Web protection.

Frankly I'm stumped but it''s the error that I keep getting that any IP ending in 0 automatically receives a low ID don't panic message that gets me. If the protocol has been changed so everybody with an IP ending in gets a LowID regardless it has to the dumbest and stupidest move ever by the Edonkey protocol programmers.

Here's the error in full.
[22:37:09] ED2K[193.169.86.73] WARNING : Your ip (64.237.243.0) ends with a 0. The edonkey protocol assigns a LOWID to you. It's OK, dont panic !

This is due to the way IDs are calculated. In theory, service providers shouldn't use IPs ending with 0, so the eD2k protocol designed the way the ID is calculated in a way that IPs ending with 0 would generate a low ID. However, a lot of service providers don't follow the rules, so you're getting a low ID.

As for your router, a quick google search shows it has an integrated firewall. Try disabling it. The firewall of my router was blocking Shareaza even though I forwarded the respective port for UDP usage because it detected a DDoS on that port (probably because of the large number of UDP packets).

At the EDonkey forums they told me to turn off my modem/router for at least 15 minuted and that dd the trick so you are right some ISPs don't follow the rules and sadly my ISP is one of them. Thanks for all the help by all means pass the information on turning off the router for 15 minutes so the ISP resets the connection hopefuly with an IP not ending in 0.

So they are telling you exactly the same as I did.

Have you had luck disabling your router's firewall?
